<description>&#60;p&#62;My ancestors were original settlers in my home state of Texas, having come to the state sometime around 1830, or before. James Henry Johnston, son of William Johnston and Mary Granberry Johnston, came to Texas and began acquiring land like it was going out of style. He served on the 8th Texas Congress, making preparations for the Texas Revolution from Mexico, and was an established businessman in Red River County, where he made his home. The Johnston family is said to have come from Bertie, North Carolina, but I know nothing of them before arriving in Texas. We are planning a genealogical trip to the NC area, and am curious if anyone might know of this family. Any tips you can provide would be much appreciated! Thank you!
