I am trying to define Henry's parents and siblings. Henry's father is likely a Richard Kemp. Here is what I know of these Kemps - any other info about them, elaboration of their families, spouses, parents, siblings, dates, etc would be appreciated. I am trying to definitively push back the Kemp lines from Henry, so need to start with more info about his putative father, Richard. A major question of great importance is who are Richard's parents and siblings - could Moses Kemp be a sibling? They had 13 children. All I know of these children is: *****Drury Kemp (~1790 – 1850<) [1850 USC/ZTN], born in NC, married Sarah (Sally) Mangum (~1798 – 14 May 1843), daughter of John and Sarah Mangum, 28 Jan. 1815 in Wake Co., NC. Sally passed in Wake Co., NC. *****Jesse Kemp (~1795 – 7 Aug. 1865) [1850 USC/ZTN], born in Wake Co., NC, married Martha Unknown (~1795 – 1850<) [1850 USC/ZTN], born in NC, ~1819. Jesse was a farmer. Wake County North Carolina County Court Minutes 1793 thru 1796 Page 113 (133) Ordered that Thomas Dean, Samuel Thompson Jr., William Martin Junr and Jesse Kemp be patrolers in Capt. Dread Roger's district. The land associated with the Purefoy-Chappell House was owned during the early 1830s by Jesse Kemp, a substantial land owner who gave his name to a stream a half mile to the east of this lot, Kemp’s Spring Branch, which was later shortened to Spring Branch. Jesse Kemp sold one acre of his land on December 30, 1837 to James Simpson Purefoy for fifty dollars. (Wake County Deed Book 14:63, Wake County Court House, Raleigh, North Carolina.) Henry Kemp and his family who went to TN were: Henry B. Kemp (1731/1736/1739/1740/1743 – February 15, 1819<) [1790 USC/WNC] married Dinah Unknown (? - February 15, 1819<) ~1756. He was born in Queen Annes Co., MD (?) / Orange Co., NC (?) / VA (?), and emigrated prior to April 1745 with his father Richard to Johnston Co., NC. After Wake County was created from Johnston, Cumberland and Orange Counties, Henry, about 1804 - 1806, migrated from Wake Co., NC, to Wilson Co., TN, and then later to the Defeated Creek area of Smith Co., TN. Some sources have the migration beginning from Granville Co., NC, which was just north of Wake Co., NC. He died in Smith Co., TN. The extent of his issue is not definitively known. Rebecca Kemp (~1755 - ~1833) was born in Caswell Co., NC and died in Wilson Co., TN. On 20 Jun. 1781, in Wake Co., NC, she married 1) Roger Reece Jr. (1751/1760 - 1798), son of Roger and Fanny Reece, born in Caswell Co., NC, 20 June 1781 in Wake Co., NC; they had six children. Roger and Sarah Reece (Richard Kemp’s wife) were siblings. On 4 Nov. 1799, Rebecca married 2) Fielding Neal in Granville Co., NC. (This is the same day that her brother Richard Kemp married Sarah Reece, sister of her late husband Roger!) Murphy Kemp (21 Mar. 1770 – 1851/1860) was born in Granville/Wake Co., NC and married Sarah Seay/See (22 Apr. 1775 - <1825). They had four sons and five daughters. Burrell P. Kemp Sr. (~1760/1771 – 1 Sep. 1827) was born in NC/VA and married Nancy Foster/Fauster/Fouster (1765/1775 – 1835) on 15 Dec. 1791 [WCNCMR], in Wake Co., NC. He died in Cainsville, Wilson Co., TN, she in Scott Co., IL. (Nancy Foster’s parents may have been John and Maria Johnston Foster.) They had four sons and five daughters. Richard Kemp (1774 – 1850<) was born in NC, was literate and married Barbara (Sarah) Reece (~1780 - <1875), born in Caswell Co., NC, daughter of Roger and Fanny Reece, on 4 November 1799 [GCNCMR] in Granville Co., NC, marriage bond 5303. Roger (Rebecca Kemp’s husband) and Sarah Reece were siblings. They had three sons and two daughters. Solomon Kemp (1782 – 1861/1869), born in Wake Co., NC, married twice, first to Judah (Juda) Lankford (~1784 - ?), daughter of William Lankford and Amanda Stone, on 7 Feb. 1801 [GCNCMR] in Granville Co, NC, then to Hannah (1788 - ?), also from NC. Solomon and Judah had four sons and five daughters. Edward Powers containing 75 men includes "Henery Kemp" and "Richard Kemp, Clark" Avera Parham - March 1798-Wake Co., NC A Deed from James Kirkham to Henry Kemp proved by Avera Parham. Also a Deed from Drury Parham to Wm. Wynn proved by Wm. Partin??(Parham). There is no trace of Henry Kemp or any of his children in the 1810 US Census, leading to the unlikely speculation that the whole family was on the move during the census periods at both their points of departures and arrival. mminorhsd on "John Minor Family" http://forums.northcarolinagenealogy.net/topic/john-minor-family#post-202 Thu, 03 Dec 2009 10:03:24 +0000 mminorhsd 202@http://forums.northcarolinagenealogy.net/ In my research of the Minor family history, I've hit a road block in Granville County, NC. late 1700s. I found a listing for John Minor on ancestry.com that shows he is buried in the "minor burying ground", and also that he was listed as being a revolutionary war soldier. Does anyone know of a listing or map of old burial sites in Granville County? I plan on visiting that area in late 2009 and would like to be able to locate the cemetery.
