<description>&#60;p&#62;Searching for information re burial place of Joshua Pruitt: b. 1837, d. 15 Jan 1864. 53rd NC Infantry, Co.G. Enlisted April 1862, deserted Oct.10,1862 &#38;#38; returned Nov-Dec 1862. Deserted again 20 May 1863, returned &#38;#38; court-martialed 19 Dec, 1863.  Executed by firing squad 15 Jan, 1864.&#60;br /&#62;
Assuming death occurred somewhere in VA since his unit was joined with Army of Northern VA. Have recd official military records from Natl Archives but nothing that I haven't already found on internet.  His widow continued to receive widow's pension,  collected at Big Creek post office&#60;br /&#62;
Anyone know procedure for burial of deserters? Was the family expected to collect the body for burial? Would there be any records for bounty collected for returning deserters to their unit? I'm at a standstill, having looked everywhere I can think of! Thanks for any information whatsoever!
