I'm looking for the parents of Matilda Linville, born about 1800. She married John Henry Johnson in Surry County. It was believed by some that Matilda was daughter of Richard Linville and Mary M. Yount. The dates may be the same, but this Matilda is not the same that married John. According to census, she is most likely from one of the son's of Thomas Linville and Hannah Morgan (don't know for sure). There seems to be scarce data on the sons and their families, so I'm hoping someone out there may know something. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

I need any help that may be available. Benjamin was a survivor of the revolutionary war.
Benjamin married Mary Winkler in Lincoln County in 1827. They later moved to Burke County. The year of Benjamin Spencer death was 1843 according to his military records and the testimony of his wife when she applied for his pension benefits, which she was awarded. Here is my brick wall! I am looking for information that will lead to the identity of my g grandfather, (Monroe Spencer). My mother and her brothers always maintained that Monroe was a quarter Indian, of this I have no doubt. On 1850 US census, Monroe was listed, giving his age as 2 years old, meaning he was born in 1848. The year of Benjamin s death and the year of Monroe's birth supports my belief that Monroe was an illegitimate Child. According to Government Laws, Mary would have had to forfeit her pension benefits, reason enough not to remarry. For Monroe to have been a quarter Indian, his father would have had to be a half blood Indian, which means that Monroe's father was the son of a white man and an Indian woman. All this happened in or near , Upper Creek, Burke county, NC., If anyone knows the history of the area I would greatly appreciate hearing from you, at hawarlickc@aol.com.
PS, the only surname that shares the same DNA is, Clark-Clarke,.
Thank You.

Martha Martin(unknown maiden) married (unknown husband Martin) about 1830 in North Carolina. I know of 2 sons Ephraim Bethel Martin born about 1833 in North Carolina, and John Martin born about 1834 in North Carolina. Martha remarried in 1844 to James Connor/Conner. His 1st wife Elizabeth Melvina RISK had 4 children Joseph Connor born 1831, William Risk Conner, James Conner Jr, Melvina Amanda Conner. After Eliabeth Connor died in Indiana, James and Martha married in 1844 in Indiana. In 1845 they had a son Milton J Conner. In 1852 the new family went on the Oregon Trail to Benton County, Oregon. Ephraim either stayed or went back to Indiana and was in the Civil War for 3 years 1862-1865 and lived! He married Marsha Johnson and they had a daughter Hannah Martin found in the 1880 Stockwell, Tippercanoe, IN census, Marsha died of TB in 1882, Hannah died in 1885. Ephraim remarried to Sarah Nevada Stone in Vermillion, Illinois in 1883. They had their first son Frank Leslie Martin in 1883 in Sagamon, Illinois, by the 1890 census they were back in Oregon -Polk County. By 1899 they had 8 children. In 1900 Ephraim dies, Sarah dies in 1913 in Polk County. The eldest son Frank Martin raises the youngest children (have guardianship records).
In 1878 Martha's husband James Conner dies and has a WILL in Benton County, Oregon (I have excerpts of the WILL-but can't locate original) I know Martha dies after 1880 census in Kings County, Oregon before 1900. I don't know Martha's maiden name (but I'm sure it was not Martha Hicklin that was married to Job Martin), I don't know Ephraim and John Martin's fathers name. I have "widow's paper" from Civil War records for Ephraim, but his birth and parents vitals are not listed. I know per 1860 Linn County, Oregon census that brother John Martin was a teacher at Camas school, no other vitals known. Searching for Martha, Ephraim, John and their unknown father Martin info. Thanks Cindy Martin

Two different lines from my family tree lived in Alamance Co. Dr. William Rankin Gorley/Goley was the son of Margaret Gorley/Goley (daughter of William Gorley/Goley and Mary "Polly" Euliss). Dr. Rankin had a son Dr. Willard Coe Goley, and one of Willard's son's was Dr. Alexander Fairly Goley. Dr. William Ruffin Goley was the son of Carson Haywood Goley who was the son of Ruffin Gorley (the brother of Margaret Gorley/Goley - son of William Gorley/Goley and Mary "Polly" Euliss). In an article on William Ruffin Goley it mentions that he was of Irish descent. The Gourley/Gorley/Goley family "legend" said the family was of French descent. Two different articles said William Rankin Goley came to Alamance Co. from Virginia. Records show he was born in North Carolina and went to medical School in Baltimore, Md. No mention of Virginia. So, does anyone in Alamance Co. know anything about either or both of these two lines? My family would love to know if we are of Irish descent or French, if any of the family tales are true and if William Rankin really did come to Alamance Co. from Virginia. If anyone has any information about the above, the Gorley/Goley family would love to hear it. Thanks...

I'm trying to determine whether or not my ancestor Jesse Lewis is the son of Col. or Capt. Gideon Lewis.

He was born in North Carolina, but was in Johnson County, Tenn., for the 1850 and 1860 census. I lose him after the 1860 Tenn. census (taken in April) unless he's the Jesse Lewis listed on the Ashe County, NC, mortality schedule as having died there in October 1860.

According to census, his wife and their oldest two children were born in North Carolina.

Here's info from census records: In 1850, Jesse and Lucy appear with children - Elizabeth, 7, Charity, 5, Sarah, 3, Alfred, 2, and Polly Mary (Ann? - writing hard to read) 2/12.

In 1860, Jesse and Lucinda appear with children - Elizabeth, 16; Charity, 15; Sarah, 13; Alfred, 12; Mary, 10; James, 8; Henry, 2; and Hila, 2/12.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. KD Hatton

I'm related through the Lamb line and can tell you the following:
Arminta Madre Lamb, b. 10/22/1888 Scuppernong, Washington County, NC (or poss. born Feb. 1893?), d. November 6, 1915, Skinnersville, NC, m. 12/21, 1913 to Andrew Jackson Phelps. I have Arminta's parents as Thaddeus Lamb and Hester Hassell. Her siblings were Thadeus Richard Lamb, Milton Augustus Lamm, and Wedell Marie Lamb. I have information on each of these as well - just let me know if you need it. I have Thaddeus's parents as Abner Lamb and Hester Spruill. I have Hester Hassell's parents as William Hassell and Melisa Spruill. I am not a professional genealogist. I just glean info from online sources and sometimes other individual's family trees. Hope this helps.

I am looking for a photo of the old Unaka Baptist Church. It was located on the left side of the road just as you turned off Joe Brown Highway (same side as the cemetery). It was white and made of concrete blocks.
