  1. I'm trying to solve the mystery of Jacob Arney, who died in what was Lincoln County, NC in 1784. Jacob Arney came to North Carolina in 1767, bringing along his family including Christian Arney, Sr. who was born in 1750. The family migrated from Pennsylvania in 1767.

The mystery is solving the puzzle of who exactly was this Jacob Arney, who were his siblings, who were his parents, where did this family come from, was Jacob Arney born in the United States or did he immigrate with his family from another country, etc.?

The source of conflict is that back in the 1950's when genealogists were researching this family line, they tied this particular Jacob Arney to a Frederick Ernigh, who arrived in the United States September 11th, 1732 aboard the Pennsylvania Merchant Ship, captain John Stedman.

At least one of these researchers, Dr. Tom Rider, realized the error of this "tie in" when he found evidence that this son of Frederick Ernigh, Jacob Erne, was not the same Jacob Arney that moved to North Carolina. Jacob Erne died in Pennsylvania leaving behind a widow, Barbara. Obviously, if Frederick Ernigh's son, Jacob Erne, died in Pennsylvania he could not have moved his family to North Carolina and also die in North Carolina!

There lies the mystery of one Jacob Arney, who was he?

Jacob Arney's son, Christian Arney, Sr. ended up with most, if not all, of Jacob Arney's land. Christian Arney, Sr. lived his life in North Carolina where he died in what was Lincoln County, NC in 1834.
Jacob Arney also had a son named Peter Arney, who was "bound over by the court" to a John Fullenwider, until the age of 21 to learn the trade of a miller, the year was 1787. Peter Arney later moved to Wythe County, VA where he married and began his own family. Later, Peter Arney moved his family to what would become Overton County, Tennessee, where he would die in 1845.

My quest, my goal, is to solve the mystery of Jacob Arney, to find DTP (Definitive Tangible Proof) of exactly who Jacob Arney was, who his siblings were, who his parents were, and where did Jacob Arney come from (besides Pennsylvania).
